Job Summary
The Department of English in the College of Humanities and Behavioral Sciences at Radford University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the assistant professor level in English Education to begin August 2024.

Radford’s Secondary English Education program has a long history of preparing students for careers as English Language Arts educators. Graduates of this program have a 100% placement rate, and many teacher candidates secure jobs before graduation. The licensure program operates on the graduate and undergraduate levels, and students work closely with dedicated faculty and full-time mentors. The English faculty is committed to providing a supportive and collaborative environment for new faculty building a successful career.

The Department of English is housed within the College of Humanities and Behavioral Sciences (CHBS), which is the largest college at Radford University and home to liberal arts instruction on campus. CHBS and English are housed in a 145,000 square foot modern instructional and research facility. Centrally located on the main quad of the campus, it is the largest academic building at the university and houses an array of specialized teaching and research facilities.

Candidate must have a strong commitment to both undergraduate and graduate education. The successful applicant will be expected to teach a mix of undergraduate and graduate licensure courses in the Secondary English Education Program including, but not limited to: Teaching Writing, Grammar and Language for Teachers, Children’s Literature, Adolescent Literature, and Teaching Reading in the English Classroom. Candidates will also be expected to establish an independent program of research, assist in supervision of teacher candidates in field placements, and participate in department, college, and university governance. Candidates should have completed the Ph.D. degree by the August 2024 start date.

Ph.D. in English, English Education, or related field. ABD with an anticipated dissertation completion date within 12 months of the start date may be considered; individuals who are ABD would be hired at a rank of Instructor until the doctorate is complete.
