Research Intern

Job Description

This is a casual, non-benefitted position working 15-17.5 hours per week for a 6-month term. The schedule can be flexible and will be finalized in collaboration with the hiring manager. Estimated pay for this position is $25 per hour.

Primary Duties:

Researching early Smith College history, especially related to race
Identify collections at Smith and elsewhere to more fully document the history of race at Smith College
Provide summary reports with necessary citations and/or copies of historically relevant documents
Support the College Archivist in presenting research findings in presentations or similar modes

Experience:

Research experience in archives and special collections, especially around early US history
Bachelor's degree in US history or similar humanities field required
Demonstrated cultural competency and sensitivity, empathy, and care in working with historical records

Skills:

Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing
Ability to work independently
Possess good judgment and critical thinking, especially when engaging in primary source analysis
A demonstrated ability to cite appropriately and craft a legible, accurate historical narratives
