This is a Temporary Unclassified position anticipated to last up to 3 years.

Hybrid work environment with potential for significant telework. Primary work location will be the Golden Rule Building in St. Paul.

Serve as the State Energy Office's (SEO) Electric Vehicle and Energy Storage Subject Matter Expert (SME) and lead research analyst on engineering and technical matters focused on:

  • Electric Vehicles (EV) and EV Charging infrastructure.

  • Energy Storage, particularly battery storage but inclusive of other emerging energy storage technologies.

  • How electric vehicle charging infrastructure and energy storage may impact the grid.

This position will provide policy and technical guidance, direction and expertise to management and staff on programmatic development as well as difficult and sensitive cases, dockets, and policy initiatives, including energy storage, interconnection, infrastructure placement and planning. As such, this team member will need have strong engineering and technical skills and have strong oral and written communication skills (both formal and informal).

Minimum Qualifications

3 (three) years of experience performing analysis, exercising judgment, and relying on knowledge in:

  • Electric Vehicle Charging,

  • Electrical Engineering,

  • Energy Storage,

  • Electrical grids, and

  • Micro-grids.

A Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or similar engineering or science degree is equivalent to one (1) year of experience.

An Advanced degree in electrical engineering or similar engineering or science degree is equivalent to eighteen (18) months of experience.

Applicants who meet the above education/experience requirement will be further evaluated based on the following:

  • Excellent organizational skills.

  • Focus and attention to detail.

  • Excellent writing and communication skills and be able to work closely with lead staff and decision makers.

  • Experience with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Material Science, or Battery-related Chemistry.

  • Verbal communicator with who shares our vision for a more reliable, affordable and clean energy world.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to condense and explain technical information in a concise manner that can be understood by diverse constituents such as leadership, local units of government, nonprofits, contractors and the general public.

  • Experience working on large diplomatic projects or stakeholder engagement initiatives related to energy storage and EV Infrastructure.

Physical Requirements

Requires occasional moving of articles such as boxes, accounting records, laptop computer, and portable printer.
