Position: General Maintenance Worker-Part Time (Pool Position)

Work Schedule: as needed not to exceed 19 hours a week

Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind (AIDB) is the worlds most comprehensive education, rehabilitation, and service program serving individuals of all ages who are Deaf, Blind, DeafBlind, and multidisabled and their families. Founded in 1858, AIDB serves more than 32,000 infants, toddlers, children, adults, and seniors with hearing and vision loss throughout Alabama each year.

Our services literally span a lifetime including five campuses in Talladega, ten regional centers located throughout the State of Alabama with programs that range from early and senior intervention, traditional and nontraditional education services in residential and outreach settings, and a manufacturing facility that is the states largest employer of adults who are Deaf, Blind, or DeafBlind. POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Must have a valid current Alabama Drivers License and be eligible to be covered by AIDB insurance carrier.
  • Ability to operate grounds maintenance equipment such as shovels, pick, broom, rake, weed eater, lawnmowers and hedge clippers.
  • Upon offer of employment, the applicant must submitto a fingerprint background check at an agency designated and paid by AIDB.

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist physical plant carpenters and MEP Workers in task assigned.
  • Assist in moving of furniture and set up of tables, chairs and equipment for special events.
  • General cleaning including but not limited to pressure washing, gutter cleaning and deep cleaning of tile.
  • Hand demolition work.
  • Grounds work.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

SALARY: $15.25 - $17. 89 per hour Scale C5 Rank 31

This is a non-exempt position and is subject to overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
