Amentum is actively seeking Project Support Engineers with a background in Navy shipboard and/or submarine systems maintenance and/or design to help maintain former Navy and Coast Guard ships.  Locations for this role include San Diego, CA, Washington, DC, and Norfolk, VA. This role will be hybrid (combined remote and on-site).  

Estimate hiring salary range: $83,000-115,000 (salary rate to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant internal equity, and alignment with market data).

Essential responsibilities and daily duties will include: 

  • Develop Troubleshooting plans for shipboard systems.   

  • Verify compliance with systems engineering principles, integration approaches, and accepted Department of the Navy maintenance program fundamentals.   

  • Support engineering evaluations of hydraulic, electrical and freshwater control systems onboard ships.  

  • Review and evaluate work specifications as requested by the project manager based on technical risk and the quality management plan for the assigned availability.   

  • Review non-standard test procedures that are called out in a work specification as required and verify that individual work to test relationships are accurately captured in the ITP.   

  • Coordinate with shipboard and waterfront personnel to effect repairs to subject systems.  Will require working onboard ships at times. 

  • Conduct maintenance planning of shipboard systems and controller's onboard ships. 

  • Prepare all required products including certification PowerPoint, Lead Engineer certification memos, and other supporting documents. 

  • May mentor junior personnel. 

Minimum Requirements: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent. 

  • 8 years of hands-on experience with systems covered as a former US Navy or US armed forces technician. 5 years of working experience in ship maintenance. 

  • Industry-related experience, which includes experience in shipbuilding or maintenance. 

  • Ability to think critically and be able to keep a project moving towards completion. 

  • Ability to travel CONUS and OCONUS (up to 25%). Ability to obtain a United States Passport. 

  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment. Ability to work onsite and remote. 

  • Ability to obtain a Secret US government clearance. Note: US citizenship is required to obtain a secret clearance.
