Contracted Faculty of Practice (Adjunct): Intro to Psychology

The undergraduate Psychology program at Concordia University, Saint Paul, is seeking qualified candidates to teach PSY102 Introduction to Psychology during the 2024-2025 academic year. The university has three sections available during the fall 2024 and spring 2025 semesters, and will work with one or more candidates to staff the sections, pending candidate availability.

Position Overview: The Department of Psychology and Family Science offers a variety of degree options and learning formats for students who are seeking an undergraduate Psychology degree, including a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree, a Bachelor of Arts (B.S.) degree, or a Psychology minor. The Psychology program also adheres to a primary curriculum model, whereby the curriculum is intentionally standardized so that all students have a rigorous and quality-driven learning experience and instructors have a consistent and well-supported teaching experience.

In addition to the Course Instruction Responsibilities listed, the instructor will prep the course shells as directed before the beginning of the semester, hold all classes according to the CSP schedule, follow the primary curriculum developed for the course, prepare and deliver engaging lectures, and adhere to all teaching guidance expectations set forth by the Psychology program (take attendance, be available to students outside of class, make career connections, etc.). If needed, the instructor will also complete D2L training before teaching.

Course Description: PSY 102 - Introduction to Psychology (3 cr): This course introduces the scientific study of behavior and mental processes. Psychological, behavioral, cognitive, humanistic, psychodynamic and social-cultural perspectives are explored. Topics such as scientific method, statistical reasoning, neuroscience, learning, cognitive processes, development, psychological adjustment, therapy, social psychology, diversity and community are studied.

Program/College: Undergraduate Psychology Program (B.A./B.S.), Department of Psychology and Family Science; College of Education, Humanities, and Social Sciences (CEHSS)

Course Instruction Responsibilities:
Facilitate quality student learning through teaching assigned courses.
Increase student course engagement by providing a positive and regular presence within the course (at least four days per week for online courses) by engaging students through course activities and ongoing availability to provide student support.
Provide substantive and timely feedback on course assessments, following academic unit and university guidelines, within the Learning Management System, typically within five business days of the assessments' due dates.
Respond to student inquiries typically within 24 hours during business days unless otherwise specified at the college level (48 hours on weekends, with closer monitoring if assignments are due during the weekend or on Monday).
Work collaboratively in a supportive academic environment, partnering with academic advising, career development, and the academic team to ensure each student has the resources they need to succeed.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Follow the university and academic unit's policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
Education Required: Options: (1) Master's degree in a psychology field; or (2) A Master's degree and demonstrated teaching, work, or research experience in a psychology field.
Education Preferred: A terminal degree in a psychology field is preferred.
Experience Preferred: Face-to-face teaching experience is strongly preferred. Demonstrated teaching, work, or research experience in a psychology field is also preferred.
