The hub for acute care services in central Pennsylvania, UPMC Harrisburg is a full-service, Magnet®-designated hospital with 411 beds. The hospital, located in downtown Harrisburg, is home to the UPMC Children’s Harrisburg inpatient pediatric unit and offers a range of specialties including women’s health, gastroenterology, and urology. 

What is the Graduate Nurse Rotational Program (GNRP)?

UPMC Harrisburg is pleased to announce we are NOW HIRING Graduate Nurses as full-time Professional Staff Nurses to support various hospital units as part of a special Rotational Program. The GNRP will begin in August 2024.  Previous participants have had the opportunity to participate in the following Medical Unit (M5), Neuro (M10) and Ortho (AG7) track for six months.

Main 5 Main 5 is a 29-bed acute care medical unit that is dedicated to providing high quality compassionate care to a diverse adult and geriatric patient population.  The majority of patients come to Main 5 through the Emergency Department with medical diagnoses related to the endocrine, integumentary, gastrointestinal, renal, respiratory and genitourinary systems.   We specialize in the orientation of new graduates where you will gain valuable experience as you begin your nursing career.  You will find an environment that fosters teamwork and support, professional growth, shared decision making and a focus on a healthy work/life balance. We look forward to meeting you! 

Main 10 is a 24 bed fast paced neurology department focusing on the care of patients suffering from neurological disorders such as stroke, seizures, brain tumors, multiple sclerosis and other related disorders.  The unit is currently stroke certified.  The unit also has 15 Epilepsy monitoring rooms.  A multidisciplinary team staffs Main 10 with special knowledge focused on neuro and stroke care.  Neurological care requires a high level of critical thinking, communication skills, patience and interpersonal skills.  BLS, NIHSS and Telemetry certification required. 

AG7 (Orthopedics) is a 42 bed post-surgical care unit featuring all private patient rooms. The majority of our admissions are elective surgeries, which makes us unique in that our patients plan their visit here with us. We have patients who come in for Orthopedic, General, Urology, Women’s, and Podiatry Surgery. We also receive patients as direct admits as well as through the emergency department, who are brought in for surgery. We are a high energy, fast-paced unit that works with multiple disciplines to coordinate our overall care for each patient individually. We care for many different surgical populations, therefore we provide a great opportunity for new nurses to fine tune their skills and really be able to “pull it all together” from what they learned in school. Your experiences as a new nurse or seasoned nurse will grow your knowledge, teach you time management and make you an expert on admissions and discharges and everything in between. The foundations learned on AG7 will set you up to be a successful nurse with many different patient populations. What Does Placement Look Like Post-GNRP?

Upon completion of the Graduate Nurse Rotational Program, placements are determined by participant preference, Hiring Manager preference, and business need through a collaborative matching process at UPMC Harrisburg.

Applicants will be placed in the appropriate job title and salary from the My Nursing Career Ladder based on their individual experience and education.

Shift/Hours: Our RNs work a rotating 12-hour schedule to ensure 24/7 coverage on the floor.

GNs must be eligible for State Board Licensure and successfully pass the examination before beginning this role -OR- must have a Temporary Practice Permit and commit to taking the NCLEX examination within FOUR months of hire.
