Summer 2025 EV Traction Inverter applications Intern
Job Description
onsemi (Nasdaq: ON) is driving disruptive innovations to help build a better future. With a focus on automotive and industrial end-markets, the company is accelerating change in megatrends such as vehicle electrification and safety, sustainable energy grids, industrial automation, and 5G and cloud infrastructure. With a highly differentiated and innovative product portfolio, onsemi creates intelligent power and sensing technologies that solve the world’s most complex challenges and leads the way in creating a safer, cleaner, and smarter world.
Here at onsemi we take great pride in our internship program and the efforts we make to provide students with hands-on industry experience. We provide competitive pay, medical benefits, various networking event opportunities, and flexible hours based on school schedule.
onsemi is seeking a self-driven and motivated electrical engineering student to join our efforts in improving power electronic devices and systems for the EV industry. As power electronics engineering intern, you will help analyze, compare, and contrast different switching transistor technologies for use in traction inverters for EVs. You will become familiar with requirements for EV traction inverters, and work with Wide Band Gap (WBG) semiconductor technologies such as Silicon Carbide (SiC) and Gallium Nitride (GaN) in the theoretic (math), virtual (simulation) and physical (HW measurements) domains.
This opportunity asks a student to analyze, compare, and contrast the properties of various transistors in specific operating conditions related to use in EV traction inverters. A successful outcome is a steep learning curve for the student, who will rapidly gain industry relevant knowledge and know-how on cutting-edge EV drivetrain technology. As well as student learning, the project should deliver a report with corroborating results between expectations, simulations, and physical HW measurements highlighting the differences between the transistor technologies for the EV application. Highly skilled onsemi engineers will provide guidance and support and may provide physical test results on Double-Pulse Test Boards if/as needed.
Responsibilities
To be considered for an internship, you must be currently enrolled in a degree seeking program. This position requires the student be enrolled in electrical engineering discipline.
While familiarity with math and simulation tools such as Matlab, Mathcad, Simetrix are a big advantage, deep knowledge about transistor technologies and semiconductor materials are not a pre-requisite. Some past experience with HW measurements (oscilloscopes, power supplies) are a plus.
Remote work is a possibility and no travel is expected.
Qualifications
onsemi is excited to share the base salary range for this position is $26.75-38.50/hour. The final pay rate for the successful candidate will depend on geographic location, skills, education, experience, and/or consideration of internal equity of our current team members. We also offer a competitive benefits package. https://www.onsemi.com/site/pdf/Benefits-Summary-USA.pdf
