As an Arrhythmia Lab Technologist at Cleveland Clinic, you will: • Initiate the application of Holter monitors and loop recorders while educating the patients. • Receive transtelephonic transmissions from patients and promptly address life threating arrhythmias. • Complete transtelephonic pacemaker and ICD evaluations and collaborate with device personnel regarding results. • Independently notify the appropriate Physician or Nurse to provide patients with the appropriate medical intervention. Responsibilities:

  • Initiates Outpatient and Inpatient ambulatory EKG recordings via Holter monitors or Loop Recorders.
  • Applies EKG electrodes in the appropriate anatomical and cardiographic positions.
  • Provides patient education and instruction related to the care and use of EKG recording devices.
  • Performs technical review and completes superimposition scanning of recorded electrocardiographic data from ambulatory monitors and Inpatient Telemetry recordings with clinical accuracy and completeness.
  • Analyzes and edits EKG recordings; generates reports including EKG strips representing significant arrhythmias and symptomatic events.
  • Manages third party cardiac arrhythmia monitoring devices and reporting systems.
  • Notifies physicians of abnormal heart rhythms and patients with significant clinical symptoms; assists patients with securing medical assistance.
  • Schedules and completes all transtelephonic pacemaker and ICD evaluations. Identifies appropriate pacemaker function, documents in the electronic report and notifies the Device Clinic staff or EP physicians of pacemaker battery depletion and/or device malfunction.
  • Completes post cardiac device implant calls and confirm follow up is scheduled as outlined by protocol.
  • Assists with the scheduling of the device replacement procedure.
  • Assists the RN or physician with pacemaker and ICD patients in the Device Clinic with device testing and evaluations.
  • Maintains Certified Cardiographic Technician Certification (CCT) or Certified Rhythm Analysis Technician (CRAT); acquires the required continuing education units.
  • Continuously develops clinical knowledge, particularly ECG rhythm interpretation skills.
  • Serves as Preceptor to orient new staff members and visitors.
  • Participates in quality improvement process.
  • Assist in development of department procedures.
  • Maintains all (Main Campus and Regional sites) recorders and scanning equipment; completes documentation for tracking monitors and recorders by serial number and patient demographics.
  • Completes the data collection and report processing for The Arrhythmia monitoring Core Lab.
  • Collaborates with CCF Fellows and physicians, and nurses.
  • Field and respond to incoming phone calls from third party vendors, patients, regional sites, and internal departments.
  • Provides arrhythmia monitoring data as needed for research projects.
  • Responds to internal and external customers in a professional manner.
  • Works efficiently in a fast paced environment.
  • Able to work autonomously while maintaining a team atmosphere.
  • Maintains a positive attitude.

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Graduate of an accredited cardiovascular program or equivalent allied health training program or bachelors or master’s degree in a field related to science or physical health or
  • Completed coursework from a recognized institution in Basic Sciences or
  • Two years’ experience in the field of Cardiovascular Technology may substitute for post-high school education requirement.

Languages:

  • English

Certifications:

  • Certified Cardiographic Technician (CCT) or Certified Rhythm Analysis Technician (CRAT) provided by Cardiovascular Credentialing International.  Must obtain within six months of hire date.
  • Current Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association.

Complexity of Work:

  • Must be able to read EKG tracings with accuracy. 
  • Knowledge of EKG techniques and principles to include EKG skin preparation and electrode placement.
  • Basic understanding of arrhythmia equipment usage and maintenance.
  • Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to collaborate effectively both internally as well as externally with multiple disciplines.

Work Experience:

  • Experience in the field of cardiovascular technology preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires frequent lifting patients, standing and walking.
  • Requires full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity with eye-hand coordination.
  • Physical capability to assist patients from wheel chairs and carts.
  • Good manual dexterity to program and operate recorders.
  • Visual acuity to utilize computers and Scanning units for long periods of time.
