The duties that the incumbent of the vacancy will be expected to perform. Duties Description Under the supervision of higher-level park management, this position will perform a variety of administrative tasks related to recreational programming and event planning for the Long Island region.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
• Develop event plans and logistics for assigned events.
• Prepare reports related to facility usage and inventory.
• Plan, conduct, and evaluate recreation programs and events.
• Organize recreational programs by determining community recreation needs, meeting with users and potential participants, evaluating public participation and comments, and recommending new and revised programs.
• Assist community organizations in planning, scheduling, and conducting events.
• Prepare and maintains event schedules.
• Work closely with volunteers, the community, and vendors to assure NYS Parks’ mission is always met.
• Oversee permanent and seasonal staff.
• Advise park management when unusually large crowds are expected necessitating additional security and parking.
• Assist with large scale events such as the Air Show, Fourth of July Fireworks, and the Summer and Winter Run Series.

The minimum qualifications required for this vacancy. Minimum Qualifications This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).**
To be considered for appointment through NY HELPS, or 55 b/c, candidates must meet the open-competitive minimum qualifications for this position. The qualifications are:
Either 1. three years of experience* in the construction, operation, or maintenance of a park, recreational facility, or campus;* one year of this experience must be at a supervisory level;
Or 2. an associate's or higher level degree or 60 college semester credit hours*** AND one year of supervisory experience in the construction, operation or maintenance of a park, recreational facility, or campus.*
*A park, recreational facility, or campus is defined as a location that offers at least three of the following elements: athletic fields, skating rink, campgrounds, golf courses, hiking trails, historic structures, marinas, picnic areas, playgrounds, recreation programs, swimming facilities or education, environmental or interpretive programming.
**For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title maybe filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.

This position is eligible for 55b/c appointment, and candidates with 55b/c eligibility are encouraged to apply. To be eligible for a 55b/c appointment, candidate must be currently enrolled in the Civil Service 55b/c program and must meet the minimum qualifications listed above. • Candidates must possess and maintain a valid NYS driver’s license as a term and condition of employment.

The hiring rate listed combines the statutory hiring rate for CSEA Grade 11 ($46,306) with the Downstate Adjustment ($3,400). Similarly, the job rate posted is a combination of the statutory job rate ($56,743) and the Downstate Adjustment ($3,400).
