Hourly Arts/ Camps/ Social/ Nature Program Job Openings
The City of Iowa City Recreation Division is accepting applications for positions within the
Arts/ Social/ Nature Program areas. Hourly program staff assignments may include the following:
Summer Camp Coordinator
15.50 per hour
Program Duration: February through August
Definition of Work: Conducts overall STEAM and Nature Education focused Summer Camp
program for 40-50 children in grades K-6 indoors and outdoors at the Ashton House, City Park, etc.
Includes activity coordination, supervision of leadership staff, and pre-camp and post-camp
supervised play. Has direct contact with parents and children. Conducts self in a manner which
promotes and supports diversity and inclusivity in the workplace and community. Performs other
duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’ s degree or Associate degree from an educational institution
accredited by a DOE recognized accreditation body in a recreation or related field and/ or
considerable experience in planning and implementing recreation activities for children preferred.
Ability to organize work duties and schedules, communicate well with others and meet deadlines
required. Attention to detail required. Must be enthusiastic and motivated. First Aid/ CPR/ AED
certification or ability to acquire required. Must pass criminal background check.
Hours of Operation: Varied daytime hours, Monday – Friday
Roller Skating, STEAM/ STEM, Arts & Nature Coordinators/ Instructors
15.50 per hour
Definition of Work: Coordinates the planning and organization of classes in roller skating, arts,
STEAM and nature programs for youth and adults. Conducts self in a manner which promotes and
supports diversity and inclusivity in the workplace and community. Performs other duties as
assigned.
Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’ s degree in science, nature or recreation preferred.
Considerable experience in teaching skating, nature, arts or STEAM related activities required.
Ability to plan and implement recreation activities, organize work schedules and meet deadlines
required. Attention to detail required. Ability to follow directions and communicate well with staff

and public required. Must be enthusiastic and self-motivated. First Aid/ CPR/ AED Certification or
ability to acquire required. Must pass criminal background check.
Hours of Operation: Varied schedule including weekdays and weekends; mornings, afternoons and
evenings during public hours of operation.
Roller Skating, STEAM/ STEM & Nature Supervisors
15.00 per hour
Definition of Work: Plans, organizes and oversees activities for children and adults in selected
areas including roller skating, STEAM/ STEM and nature programs. Conducts self in a manner which
promotes and supports diversity and inclusivity in the workplace and community. Performs other
duties as assigned.
Minimum qualifications: Must be at least 16 years of age, 18 years of age preferred. Considerable
experience in the supervision of activities required. Must be enthusiastic and self-motivated.
Ability to follow directions and communicate well with public required. First Aid/ CPR/ AED
Certification or ability to acquire required. Must pass criminal background check.
Hours of Operation: Varied schedule including weekdays and weekends; mornings, afternoons and
evenings during public hours of operation.
Special Event Coordinator
15.50 per hour
Definition of Work: Coordinates the planning and organization of special events, such as – Holiday
Events, Winter Break Festival, Spring Break Festival, no school day activities, teen events, etc.
Oversee Special Event Supervisors. Conducts self in a manner which promotes and supports
diversity and inclusivity in the workplace and community. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’ s degree in recreation or related field preferred. Considerable
experience in social activities leadership and staff supervision required. Ability to plan and
implement recreation activities, ability to organize work activities and schedules and to meet
deadlines required. Attention to detail required. Ability to follow directions and communicate
well with staff and public required. Must be enthusiastic and self-motivated. First Aid/ CPR/ AED
Certification or ability to acquire required. Must pass criminal background check.
Hours of Operation: Varied schedule including weekdays and weekends; mornings, afternoons and
evenings during public hours of operation.
Special Event Supervisor
15.00 per hour
Definition of Work: Plans, organizes and leads activities for children and adults. Example of
