Job Summary
Requested Position Title
Perinatal Surgical Technologist
Job Summary
The primary purpose of the position is to function in the scrub capacity during a surgical intervention, in the birth center and in the main OR, under the direct supervision of the registered nurse within the framework of the Ohio Nurse Practice Act.
Primary Duties
Knowledgeable and maintains skill in the handling of instruments and suture material.
Demonstrates by example, the application and rigid control of the principles and practices of aseptic technique.
Setting up and tearing down OR rooms to maintain the timeliness of the OR schedule.
Maintains strict control of needles and sharps. Disposes of them according to procedure.
Prioritizes the work load and facilitates in maintaining stock supplies in a cost effective manner.
Demonstrates knowledge of procedure by anticipating throughout the surgery case any additional supplies, suture and/or equipment that may be needed.
Practice cost containment by opening only needed supplies for a surgical procedure.
Maintain competency in scrubbing on surgical cases in the main OR as well as those cases performed in the birth center.
Float to the main OR when needed to meet the needs of both units.
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Graduate of an approved school of Surgical Technology.
Minimum of 18 years of age.
Display an attitude of interest and respect for people.
Flexible schedule required.
Demonstrates mission and values of Aultman Hospital.
Good physical and mental health.
Working Conditions
1. Has variable shift rotations that may include, but are not limited to varying 8 hour and 12 hour shifts covering day shift, afternoon shift and night shift.
2. Stands for long periods of time.
3. Breaks and lunches are coordinated with other personnel and work load activity.
4. Blood and body fluid exposure= 1.
5. Frequent changes in duties throughout working hours.
6. Involved with personnel, patients and physicians under all circumstances/conditions, especially high stress situations.
7. On call requirements to meet the needs of the unit.
8. Float to the main OR.
Annual Requirements
The completion of all annual requirements is mandatory every year. These may include:

O = Occasionally 0-33% of the work shift or 0-32 repetitions
F = Frequently 34-66% of the work shift or 32-300 repetitions
C = Constantly 67-100% of the work shift or 200+ repetitions
N = Not Present Not essential job requirement
C Standing O Pushing (wt. 300# with wheels) O Kneeling / Squatting
C Walking N Climbing N Crawling
F Lifting (wt 20-25#) O Stooping / Bending F Reaching up/Reaching Forward
