Histotechnician (Flexible Hours and Sign-on Bonus) Schedule: Full-time Position: Histotechnician Location: Laboratory Alliance of CNY, Operations Center, 113 Innovation Lane, Electronics Business Park, Liverpool, N.Y. 13088 ABOUT US: Laboratory Alliance is the areas largest state-licensed laboratory, providing clinical and anatomic pathology testing to a 16-county region in Central New York. As the laboratory of choice for most local healthcare providers, more than 10 million tests are performed annually at our laboratories at our Operations Center in Liverpool and at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse, N.Y. POSITION DESCRIPTION: Under the general direction of the Technical Manager, a Histotechnician, utilizing independent judgment, performs both routine and complex pathology procedures regarding the preparation of tissue and other body specimens for microscopic exam by a pathologist in the diagnosing, detection and identification of disease. A CLT or Histotechnician performs clinical laboratory procedures and examinations pursuant to established and approved protocols of the department of health, which require limited exercise of independent judgment and which are performed under the supervision of a clinical laboratory technologist, laboratory supervisor, or director of a clinical laboratory. May have contact with contacts with patients, hospital employees, physicians, pathologists, nursing personnel, visitors, laboratory personnel, vendors, and regulatory or accrediting agencies. All other duties, as assigned. EDUCATION: Must possess an A.A.S. degree in Histotechnology and/or qualify as a Clinical Laboratory Technician under New York State Department of Education and New York State Department of Health. NYS License required or limited permit. Must qualify for New York State Licensure. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND HAZARDS: May have exposure to communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, toxic substances, and other conditions common to a healthcare environment. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires prolonged standing, some walking and sitting, some bending, stooping, and stretching, eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity, ability to distinguish letters, numbers and symbols, use of computerized instruments, computer terminals, and other equipment common to a clinical laboratory. May require lifting up to 30 pounds or more. SKILLS AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must have proven interpersonal and communication skills, ability to adapt to changing workload and stressful situations. Excellent customer service, and strong computer skills preferred. Patient registration and order entry functions. Requires the use of equipment such as computer terminals, centrifuges, telephones, copiers and fax machines. *Sign-on bonus for direct hires only.
