JOB REQUIREMENTS: Job Summary: The highly ranked Departments of Art
History and African Cultural Studies are seeking excellent candidates
for a tenure-track position at the assistant rank or tenured position at
the associate rank beginning August 2024. We welcome candidates
specializing in the art history of Africa or the African diaspora. The
two departments are open to any time period, field of inquiry within
these disciplines, and methodological approach. Both departments are
especially interested in scholars working on cultural production who
employ innovative, interdisciplinary methods and ways of thinking. The
position involves significant ongoing research and publication, as well
as performance of department, university, and community services as
appropriate for faculty rank. The successful candidate will also have
the opportunity to participate in a range of exciting campus
organizations and initiatives, such as the Center for Visual Cultures;
the Center for Design and Material Culture; the Division of the Arts;
the Center for the Humanities; and the Institute for Research in the
Humanities, as well as make sure of the outstanding collection of the
Kohler Art Library; the Helen Louise Allen Textile Collection; and the
Chazen Museum of Art. The successful candidate will contribute to an
inclusive, fair, and equitable environment that fosters engagement and a
sense of belonging for faculty, staff, students, and members of the
broader community. Responsibilities: Successful applicants will teach
graduate and undergraduate classes of various sizes, direct independent
studies and/or conference courses, mentor students, conduct scholarly
research, and provide service to the department, college, university,
and academic community nationally or internationally. The normal
teaching load in the Departments of Art History and African Cultural
Studies is four courses per academic year, two courses in one semester
and two courses in the other, one course per semester in Art History and
one course per semester in African Cultural Studies. Successful
