Position Description

Advertised Job Summary
The Program in Speech Communication and Rhetoric, a division of the Department of English at the University of South Carolina, invites applications for an Instructor to teach at the undergraduate level. The 4/4 teaching load may include courses in public speaking, business communication, and/or oral argument and debate. Candidates with a Ph.D. may be eligible to teach in the university’s award-winning Honor’s College. This is a nine-month appointment, with the possibility of renewal, beginning August 16, 2023 and ending May 15, 2024. This appointment may be renewed contingent upon Dean’s approval, satisfactory performance, departmental needs, and the availability of funding.
Qualifications
Candidates must have completed an M.A. in Communication Studies or a closely related field (by August 1, 2023) and have a minimum of two years’ experience teaching speech communication courses at the college level, with evidence of effectiveness and innovation. We prefer candidates with a Ph.D. in Communication with experience teaching courses in rhetoric.
