As a Research and Development (R&D) Software Engineer, you will help steer the direction of strategic corporate technology by focusing on solving industrial problems through reliable research work. Working as a researcher in R&D projects, you will solve applied research and technology problems and develop ways to more effectively solve them.
R&D software development consists of the ongoing design, development, testing and maintenance of ABB's process control products (as example S+ Engineering). Software product development to respond to customer reported issues, customer requirements to enhanced functionality of existing products and customer requirements for new products. Development will be done using Microsoft technologies, including C++, C#, ASP.NET, XML, Visual Studio and Web Services.
With direction, you will follow specific instructions of supervisor or senior engineers to perform assignments requiring application of standard software development and engineering principles and practices.

Your responsibilities

Perform activities related to software development assignments using a full software development lifecycle model (Agile) following defined development processes
Activities include requirement analysis which leads to software design and definition, estimation of effort, coding and testing developed software. In addition, activities include support to documenting developed software and responding to customer reported issues
Work in a collaborative environment for all aspects of product development (design, implementation, test and support)
Contribute to group meetings and provide status update on development tasks for progress reporting
Troubleshoot and resolve routine problems and assist in resolving more complex issues

Your background

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or related field required and minimum 4 years of related experience required
Experience developing software using a software development lifecycle model and Microsoft technologies, including C++, C#, Visual Studio and Web Services
Ability to communicate effectively and resolve routine problems
Minimal domestic travel required
Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US. We are unable to sponsor an employment visa at this time for this role.

While base salary is determined by things such as the successful applicant's qualifications and experience, this position is expected to pay between $61,900 and $115,100 annually.
