Job Description
Responsible for overseeing financial aspects of federal, state and private foundation sponsored awards received by Syracuse University faculty, administrators and researchers and independently making decisions regarding expenditures and data provided. Specific responsibilities include analysis and processing of awards; review of expenditures for reasonability and applicability to individual awards; and preparing accurate and timely billing and financial reporting to sponsors, award recipients, the Office of Sponsored Programs, and others. Additionally, the Senior Accountant ensures the University compliance with federal, state, private and other guidelines with respect to spending, reporting and billing. The Senior Accountant will forge and maintain strong collaborative relationships with the Office of Sponsored Programs, school / department budget managers, along with other departments of Syracuse University, and award recipients.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and 5 years’ experience in an accounting position.
Job Specific Qualifications
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with federal regulations and principles including OMB 2 CFR Chapter I, Chapter II, Part 200 et al.
  • 2 years experience in higher education administration or accounting.
  • Solid understanding of financial systems and procedures.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft financials strongly preferred.
  • Strong and proven verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders.
  • Strong interest in creating and continuously improving Sponsored Accounting procedures and processes.
Responsibilities
  • Train and educate award recipients on Sponsored Accounting procedures, along with federal, state and private policies and practices regarding awards.
  • Provide assistance, guidance and troubleshooting to end users.
  • Compile and analyze financial and other information required by awards or requested by management.
  • Other position-related duties as assigned.
