A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A REGISTERED MEDICATION AIDE (RMA)

As a Registered Medication Aide (RMA), you administer all medications to all our residents and serve as the Manager on Duty when senior management is not on site. With careful attention to detail, you administer oral medication and insulin injections as ordered by each resident's physician. You are very conscientious about double-checking identities and maintaining adequate levels of medications, supplies, and equipment. For meals and snacks, you identify food arrangements and assist in feeding residents, recording food and fluid intake as well as performing any after-meal resident care. As needed, you also assist with direct care, such as bathing, dressing, grooming, dental care, toileting, ear care, eye care, positioning, transferring, taking vital signs, performing rehabilitative procedures, and preparing for medical tests.

You communicate effectively with physicians, other staff, and families regarding resident care. You are diligent about reporting any changes in condition, including skin breakdowns, to your supervisor as well as keeping up to date and accurate charts and records. With care, you follow all infection-control procedures and help maintain cleanliness in all areas. You are passionate about protecting each resident's rights. Committed to preserving their human dignity, you maintain confidentiality, show respect, demonstrate kindness, and promptly report any incidents of concern to your supervisor. With an understanding of the important role you play, you participate regularly in training and professional development opportunities. You go home each morning tired but feeling good about the positive impact you have made in the lives of vulnerable people in your community!

QUALIFICATIONS FOR A REGISTERED MEDICATION AIDE (RMA)

• Registered as a medication aide in good standing in Virginia
• At least 18 years of age
• Speak and understand English
• Ability to remain alert during evening and night hours
• Compassion for elderly and disabled individuals
• Ability to pass a background check and drug test
