About the Job



The Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism in the Department of Medicine at the University of Minnesota is seeking a certified diabetes educator to provide protocolized patient education and insulin dosage adjustments, collect data, work with the study team in implementing the protocol for the NIH funded Closed Loop and Education for hypoglycemia Awareness Restoration (CLEAR) study. CLEAR is a randomized controlled trial that will determine if the counter regulatory response to hypoglycemia is restored following a 12 month intervention comparing the use of a hybrid closed loop pump and an educational intervention with usual care in adults with type 1 diabetes and impaired awareness of hypoglycemia.

The CDE responsibilities will include:
* Determine if study participants have sufficient diabetes education to proceed with the study using a standardized checklist
* Provide instruction in the use of study devices including dexcom continuous glucose monitors and hybrid closed loop insulin pumps (omnipod 5, tandem control IQ, beta bionic islet pumps) to study participants
* Evaluate glycemic control at each study visit and as needed and adjust insulin delivery per protocol to achieve glucose targets
* Monitor and maintain cloud based connectivity of the pumps and sensors
* Collect information at study visits using case report forms and other approved documents
* Prepare study participants for future study visits and be available to answer their questions between visits
* Attend meetings of study staff
* Work with study team to ensure efficient and effective implementation of the study protocol and to optimize the experience for the study participants

Qualifications



All required qualifications must be documented on application materials
Required Qualifications:
* BA/BS degree or a combination of related education and work experience to equal at least four years
* Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Minnesota
* Current certification as a diabetes educator by the Certification Board of Diabetes Care and Education (CBDCE).

Preferred Qualifications - Ideal Candidate Attributes and Experience:
* Degree in nursing, pharmacy, or related field
* Demonstrated competence with the use of diabetes technology including pumps and continuous glucose monitors
* Clinical trial experience as a study coordinator or educator
* Highly approachable and compassionate; a record of promoting a culture of collaboration, teamwork, and respect; professional and personal demeanor characterized by integrity, graciousness, sincerity, and a passion for the organization's mission and objectives.
* Exceptionally team-oriented; skilled at working well in health are teams
