Work Control is a multidisciplinary group, providing deployed support to all Facility Operations Directorates (FODs) for maintenance planning, scheduling, and Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) support. The MSS-Work Control group uses Integrated Work Management to plan, schedule, and perform work in a safe and secure manner.
The Procedure Writer (WC Planner) reports to the MSS-WC and TA55 WC Team Leader supporting TA55 Maintenance in developing, revising, converting, and conducting field verification of technical procedures (Preventative Maintenance Instructions (PMIs), Detailed Operating Procedures (DOPs), etc.), to ensure compliance with the LANL Conduct of Maintenance (P950), Conduct of Operations (P315), Integrated Work Management Manual (P300), and the DOE Writer's Guide.
The focus of this position will be converting institutional PMIs to site-specific PMIs through communication and coordination with internal and external customers, to include management, engineering, operations, and craft personnel, which most PMIs are tied to vital safety systems (VSS). Specific duties may be related to mechanical, electrical, chemical and/or radiological equipment, policies, and procedures and may also include resolving work restraints.
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Prepare, review, and issue equipment and/or system and/or preventative maintenance instructions in accordance with applicable procedures and regulations.
- Assist in analyzing time and material requirements for work activities.
- Track and expedite established priority of preventative maintenance instructions.
- Assists with various functional and administrative activities in conjunction with the primary work control/work package development including, but not limited to, permit development, testing requirements, documentation generation, records management, database information management, retrieval and review, and/or training.
- Ensure all work control results, materials, processes, and final products meet quality specifications and are completed according to established requirements.
- Ensure the technical procedures are written accurately and are effective.
- Contribute ideas and work products to technical and administrative documents.
- Research and apply best practices in procedure writing implementation.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Knowledge & Expertise: Ability to identify work hazards, safety practices, operating configuration, and lock-out/tag-out policies and procedures. Knowledge and or experience in identifying environmental issues and work hazards and controls such as the isolation, containment or de-energizing of various mechanical, physical, electrical, chemical and/or radiological systems according to established procedures and regulations. Ability to understand and interpret various mechanical and electrical documents, blueprints, drawings, and schematics.
Operational Acumen: Ability to conduct functional and administrative activities in conjunction with the primary work control/work package development including, but not limited to, permit development, testing requirements, documentation generation, records management, database information management, tracking, retrieval, and review of work packages.
Planning & Prioritization: Ability to understand work control, maintenance and/or materials management, and understanding of work control and related policies, practices, and procedures. Working knowledge in identifying required labor, material, and equipment to complete given work activities.
Strategic Communication: Skill to conceptualize and communicate major elements of work control, planning, and technical information to various audiences, both verbally and in writing. Experience and demonstrated skill in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions on problems affecting preventative maintenance instructions.
Technology: Ability to utilize and manipulate a computerized work management system in maintaining and tracking work-planning activities. Computer skills to include using Microsoft Word and Excel.
Education/Experience: Position requires 2 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience performing work using computerized LANL facility management tools to include Footprints, Asset Suite, EDRMS, etc.
- Knowledge of nuclear facility maintenance and preventative maintenance.
- Experience writing procedures or work instructions for maintenance on general equipment, VSS, or equivalent.
- Active Q clearance.
- Mobile Work Package experience.
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position Commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
