Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:30 am - 4:00 pm
Location: Spokane WA (Sacred Heart Medical Hospital)
Hospital Laboratory Assistant I (HLA I) will support the hospital pathology lab and Pathologist: receive specimens, enter patient and specimen information into the laboratory information system, and package the specimens for courier shipments: may also help in procedures requiring slide preparations such as rapid assessments or frozen sections. Additional support activities include light administrative duties as requested by the pathologist, maintaining pathology laboratory equipment and reagents, and filing of blocks and slides.
You Will:
Review and update the Pathologist schedule each day
Pick up specimens from surgery or other hospital department locations for delivery to pathology
Assess and accession Cytology specimens & Histology specimens
Data entry, scan requisition images & accessioning QA
Complete/file Meditech reports
Handle slides for pathologist review
Assist with slide preparation during rapid assessments, including endobronchial ultrasound biopsies amd assist with frozen sections
Maintain storage of archived blocks and slides (Not applicable for all locations)
Maintain reagent supplies, stock supplies and will maintain equipment
Assist with tumor board preparation
Provide support services for other departments and pathologists
Performs other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent
Previous laboratory experience - highly preferred: medical terminology knowledge required
Excellent written and oral communication skills, as will be interfacing with hospital staff and Pathologist and will perform accessioning tasks
Detail oriented, astute numbering skills: speed & accuracy a focus
Strong multi-tasking ability & excellent organizational skills
Ability to troubleshoot and resolve problems
