The Department of Surgery, Division of General Surgery within the University of Washington School of Medicine is recruiting for a full-time Advanced Practice Provider (APP) as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) or Physician Assistant (PA-C) at the rank of Teaching Associate on a 12-month service period (Jul 1 – Jun 30), with an estimated start date in Summer 2025.

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS
  • This position provides a faculty appointment at the rank of Teaching Associate in the Department of Surgery, on a twelve-month service period with an anticipated start date in Summer 2025.
  • Teaching Associates hold annual appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30) and may be reappointed to subsequent annual terms.  Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. 
  • University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service.

  • PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Be incorporated into the inpatient and outpatient team caring for colorectal surgery patients at the UW Medical Center Montlake Campus
  • Provide comprehensive clinical care to patients in the pre-, peri-, and post-operative phases of care in the inpatient and outpatient setting, with inpatient care the position’s primary responsibility
  • Provide care for patients of five different colorectal attendings as part of a team of residents, medical students, and enterostomal nurses
  • Patients in the inpatient setting will be predominantly those with colorectal pathologies including colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, and diverticulitis who undergo surgery
  • Have the opportunity to independently staff an outpatient clinic of new and established patients

  • REQUIREMENTS FOR ARNP CANDIDATES
  • Current and valid Washington State Registered Nurse licensure, current and valid state Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner licensure with prescriptive authority
  • Master's degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program
  • National certification as a Nurse Practitioner or certification-eligible

  • REQUIREMENT FOR PA-C CANDIDATES
  • Current and valid state Physician Assistant licensure
  • Certification as a Physician Assistant or certification-eligible
