Job Description

1 Fulltime H-2A Seasonal Jobs Available 5/01/2024- 02/28/2025. All applicants must be able, willing and qualified to perform the work described in this job description and must be available for the entire period of employment specified in box 3 & 4, page 1. We are a small seasonal certified organic family farm with a heard of 110 registered jersey cows. Our cows calve from May to November to avoid calves being born in sub-zero weather. Calving is the highest risk time for the mother cow and warm weather eases that risk. The result is a very seasonal work load of raising calves and getting the hay crop harvest and stored. Workers will perform a combination of tasks involved in the planting, cultivating and harvesting of diversified ground crops according to the instructions of the supervisor. The worker will care for and monitor fresh cows, feed calves, drive tractor, and perform general maintenance on the farm including cleaning and moving fences for required rotational grazing. Cows graze and calf on pasture so shepherding skills are critical for handling cows. Workers will operate trucks or other multi-purpose vehicles to transport workers from housing (whether on or off farm) to the farm properties; haul tools, supplies, or crops; transport workers from place to place around the farm properties during the workday (including on public roads to reach farmer's fields); and/or transport workers to the grocery store, bank, or laundry facilities on an as-needed basis. Those that are requested to drive will be required to possess a valid drivers license, no worker will be rejected for not having a driver's license. Workers must have the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Work requires standing, kneeling and bending for long periods of time. Worker must be willing to work in varied weather conditions from cold, frozen winter to hot, humid summer days. Workers must be available to work on Saturdays. Beginning & ending times may vary depending on weather and crop conditions. Worker must take directions in simple English. Requirements: * All applicants must be able, willing and qualified to perform the work described in this job description and must be available for the entire period of employment specified. * 1 month experience required. * Workers must have the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. * Exposure to extreme temperatures. * Repetitive movements, extensive pushing/pulling, extensive walking, and frequent stooping. The full terms and conditions of the job (form ETA790a) should be reviewed and provided to qualified applicants from this website: seasonaljobs.dol.gov.
