Because of our growth, we are seeking an experienced Remote Sensing Specialist - Field Survey Lead.
Responsibilities
Job Summary:
This position is primarily responsible for flight planning, sensor operation, data processing, and reporting for airborne mapping missions. This position requires both domestic and international travel.
Data Acquisition & Processing:
Plan field tests and operations, coordinate/collaborate with engineering and developer staff, and providing QA/QC of data. Execute field operations, operate and maintain sensors, and process sensor data. Analyze and research sensor data. Coordinate findings with the work of engineering and technical personnel, clients, and others. Train junior and new staff on sensor/program procedures, includes generating and maintain SOPs.
Sensor and Equipment Maintenance: Verify/Validate sensors work correctly. Drive sensor design and software improvements. Field testing of design improvements of hardware and software. Adjust surveying instruments to maintain their precision. Supervise and ensure care of equipment.
Reporting: Prepare reports and simulations. Prepare or supervise preparation of all data, charts, plots, maps, records, and documents related to surveys. Quality control and production tracking including preparing daily and weekly production reports.
Travel:
Duties include moderate to high travel.
Must have valid U.S. passport and be willing to travel to CONUS and OCONUS locations as necessary
Additional Remote Survey Specialist Responsibilities:
Lead a team of field personnel, including pilots, in executing the National Coastal Mapping Program as directed by USACE Headquarters and JALBTCX.
Monitor and manage all aspects of data collection and processing during field operations to ensure adherence to quality control/assurance metrics.
Maintain constant awareness of survey status and implement data management procedures according to Standard Operating Procedures.
Coordinate with the team to ensure comprehensive data coverage and maintain high data quality.
Collaborate effectively with aircraft Flight Crew to ensure seamless daily flight operations, addressing permissibility and routine maintenance issues in advance to prevent disruptions.
Communicate any factors impacting daily flight operations, such as pilot health or emergency aircraft maintenance, to the client and relevant stakeholders.
Provide leadership and guidance to field personnel, fostering a positive team environment and ensuring safety protocols are followed.
Collaborate with JALBTCX staff, including engineers, scientists, hydrographers, and technicians from various government agencies and contractors.
Contribute to the ongoing improvement of data collection and processing methodologies by providing feedback and suggestions based on field experience.
Qualifications
Requirements
BA/BS degree in a geomatics related field and minimum of 5 years' applied field experience, or an applicable MA/MS degree and 3 years' experience.
Must be mentally and physically capable of performing all essential duties required of the position.
Working knowledge of aerial acquisition systems.
Must be a U.S. citizen or have a valid working Visa.
Ability to provide excellent customer service.
Must possess above average Microsoft Office suite skills.
Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative team environment; offer constructive feedback and direction to support goals.
Quickly adapt and respond to industry changes as well as internal initiatives.
Must be able to fly in general aviation aircraft for 4-8 hours.
Must be physically and mentally capable of performing all essential duties.
Must have above average verbal and written communication skills for both internal and external relationships.
Must have strong organizational skills and a keen sense of detail, accuracy and follow-through.
Must be able to respond quickly to multiple demands in a fast-paced dynamic work environment.
Demonstrated experience in managing field operations, preferably in coastal mapping, remote sensing, or related domains.
Strong understanding of lidar bathymetry, surveying techniques, and data processing workflows.
Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to monitor multiple aspects of operations simultaneously.
Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, for team coordination and client interactions.
Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and effectively manage unforeseen challenges during field operations.
Proficiency in data management practices and adherence to data quality standards.
Leadership qualities with the ability to motivate and guide a diverse team of field personnel.
Willingness to travel to various field locations as required by the project.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred experience using bathymetric process software packages which include HydroFusion, PFMABE, Caris, Qimera, and Global Mapper, QINSy, HYPACK, Edgetech Discover, TerraSolid, and SonarWiz.
Preferred knowledge of AutoCAD or GIS.
Resulting Physical Qualifications:
Must be able to sit for extended periods of time.
Must be able to operate and manipulate standard office equipment.
Must be able to occasionally reach, bend, climb and/or balance.
Must be able to frequently lift and/or move 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
Must have visual abilities of close vision, distance and color vision, peripheral vision, depth (stereo) vision and the ability to adjust focus/depending on the task performed.
