Duties/Responsibilities
- Perform laboratory tests and quality control procedures in assigned areas. Departmentalized technicians will have increased technical responsibility in areas of specialization.
- Assess and report acceptable results. Troubleshoot and document problems and out-of-control results to level of capability. Notify supervisor of problems.
- Perform and document routine and monthly maintenance of laboratory instrumentation. Notify supervisor of operational difficulties.
- Maintain inventory sheets in assigned areas and notify coordinator of needs.
- Assist in training students and new employees.
- Operate computer including all routines dealing with patient data and quality control.
- Perform phlebotomies as requested.
- Maintain laboratory work areas in a clean and safe manner.
- Attend laboratory meetings.
- Attend in service education meetings and educational seminars as requested and other duties as needed.

Education/Experience Required
- Able to utilize analyzers and computer proficiency preferred.
- Six months of experience in a laboratory environment.
- Two year Medical Lab Technician Program/Associates Degree.
Registration/Certification
- MLT (ASCP) license
Physical/Environmental Requirements
This job requires frequent bending, carrying, pulling, pushing, reaching, standing, stooping, walking and lifting over 10 lbs. There will be occasional need for climbing stairs, lifting in excess of 50 – 100 lbs and sitting. Constant use of hearing, sight and speech. Frequent use of smell and touch. Frequent keyboard and telephone use. Constant concentration and problem solving.
