Heidelberg Materials is seeking a Tow Boat Pilot for our Romeoville facility located in Romeoville, IL.

Want to be work on the river for your career? Join our team of professional mariners as a Master of Towing Vessels. Our vessels operate on the upper half of the Illinois River System as well as the exciting waters of the Chicago River in downtown Chicago. As one of our Captains, you will get to experience a rewarding day for day schedule working 21-day rotations.
Verify Vessel and Crew are suitable for the intended routes;
Ensure navigational assessments are completed prior to getting underway and updated as needed throughout each trip;
Ensure required inspections, reports, logbook entries, and items required by the Towing Vessel Record are completed as necessary;
Navigate the vessel and tow safely and efficiently while on watch;
Ensure all barges are in navigable condition;
Supervise crew to ensure safe and efficient work practices are being followed;
Determine when Lookouts are required to assist with safe navigation
Follow Safety Policies, including the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment. Maintain an awareness of environmental standards. Take corrective action to address minor problems or report compliance issues to the appropriate supervisor for resolution.
What We Are Looking For
Must be willing to work on the waterway for up to 30 consecutive days, living aboard the vessel.
Must comply with all federal, state and local guidelines.
Previous experience in the barge towing industry required
US Coast Guard Master of Towing Vessel MMC Required
Illinois River Experience Preferred
