Need to have:
• Bachelor's degree or higher in civil, electrical or mechanical engineering or other engineering field appropriate to the position (May 2024 graduates will also be considered for this position).
• Registration as an Engineer in Training (EIT) with a State Board of Registration or the ability to acquire registration within six months of hire.
• Ability to:
o Regularly lift up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
o Navigate rough terrain, working outdoors in extreme temperatures.
Preferred Skills:
Nice to have:
• Two or more years of PE or EIT civil engineering experience.
• Experience with:
o Construction inspection, construction observation, construction administration, and/or surveying.
o Transportation/civil engineering functions such as preparing roadway drainage calculations, site grading, earthwork, underground utilities, and/or erosion control.
o Preparing and/or reviewing environmental documents for roadway projects.
o Preparing and/or analyzing pavement thickness design criteria, structural analysis, traffic analysis, cost estimating, Computer Aided Design (CAD), and/or GIS.
• Graduate of an ABET accredited university, providing eligibility to take the MN state board test.
• The ability to acquire a PE registration within four years.

Description
The Construction division of Hennepin County's Transportation department is seeking a Graduate Construction Engineer. If you enjoy working outdoors and have a strong interest in transportation projects, from pedestrian ramps to highway reconstruction, then you should consider working at Hennepin County Public Works. The position offers you the opportunity to learn about transportation projects and collaborate with other civil engineers, technicians, designers, and planners. Location and hours:
This position is hybrid and will be performed at the Public Works Facility at 1600 Prairie Drive, Medina, MN 55340. There is no public transportation to this facility. During construction season, this position will work at various Hennepin County sites or in the office, and hybrid during the winter season as job duties require. Work hours will typically be Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.

New employees who are hired into remote or hybrid positions between January 2, 2022 to December 31, 2024, will receive $500 toward the cost of establishing consistent internet connectivity, payable upon completion of 6 months of employment.

In this position, you will:
• Assist, and at times serve as, the Construction Project Engineer on road or bridge construction projects, assisting/leading an internal contract administration team of inspectors/construction surveyors and/or managing consultant contract administration teams to ensure compliance with Federal/State Aid standards, special provisions, environmental documents, contract plans, and MnDOT standard specifications.
• Participate in the review of complete construction plans and specifications by applying roadway design criteria that include constructability reviews, traffic control needs, safety, quality, project specific detailed designs, specification items, and checking/reviewing other project related items.
• Coordinate and communicate with internal team members across Hennepin County divisions and departments, external permitting agencies, municipal partners, stakeholder groups, and individual citizens to ensure successful project delivery outcomes.
• Direct and perform tasks in the inspection and materials testing of road and bridge projects for compliance to the project plans and specifications.
• Oversee administration of County State Aid Highway funding requirements; prepare and review partial payment estimate in construction management software (OneOffice).
• Review final costs, previous payments, resolve differences; and prepare for contract changes.
