Sales – Commercial Project Estimator

Job Summary

The Commercial Estimator is responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing major estimating functions in support of the sales team within the company. The ideal candidate has familiarity reading and understanding blueprints, precise, self-sufficient, and highly productive professional who can effectively bid and manage a wide range of varying projects.

General Duties

  • Formulates project estimates/proposals to ensure a quality, accurate and timely submission
  • Responsible for the development of detailed take-off’s and creation of documents necessary for the full and comprehensive project details and requirements
  • Read, review, and evaluate architectural blueprint plans to develop project scope of work which then drives the estimating process
  • Estimating and bidding projects using electronic takeoff methods and WTS software
  • Develop and maintain estimating templates, tools, and software
  • Assist with developing and executing policies and procedures related to the estimating process
  • Develop and maintain active bid list
  • Must properly qualify new opportunities by collecting essential information to prepare for scoping of work
  • Perform conceptual estimates for budgetary purposes for potential clients
  • Collaborate with Project Developers and Engineers for best value solutions
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, bid strategy and presentation meetings as requested by sales team
  • Perform periodic reviews of active projects estimated cost vs. actual cost, scope deficiencies, means and methods of self-performed work, schedule and project specific issues that effected the project estimate
  • Maintains a complete knowledge of all operations systems, policies, and procedures
  • Performs other duties as necessary or assigned

Qualifications

  • Excellent communicative, interpersonal, and self-starter skills
  • Proven track record of profitability on projects through bidding and construction phases
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision

Education & Experience

  • At least three (3) years’ experience estimating in manufacturing/construction industry
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required
  • A bachelor's degree in a business-related field (preferred)
  • Multi-family construction industry experience (preferred)

Physical & Other Requirements

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer, up to 75% of the time
  • While performing the duties of this job the employee may be required to walk
  • Judgment, decision-making, follow-up, social awareness, reading/writing, organizational, timeliness, stress tolerance, communication (oral and written)
