About the Job



The Center for Magnetic Resonance Research (CMRR) at the University of Minnesota is seeking a IT support staff member to provide information technology support to meet the Center's research and infrastructure needs. This individual will manage, administer, and support multiple IT specialties and functions. This individual will also play a critical role in assisting the center in aligning with the Health Services Technology (HST) group. You will work closely with senior IT staff to upgrade IT systems to meet university security policies and support improvements to increase the IT groups overall operating efficiency.

Job responsibilities
Technical Support (60%)
- Administer workstation and printer support. This includes: OS installs for workstations and laptops, application installs, troubleshooting, applying workstation patches.
- Provide basic computer troubleshooting including repair, upgrade or replacement analysis.
-Provide network support, changes and upgrades, including managing requests for phones, data jacks, wifi access points, etc.
- Coordinate with other CMRR IT staff to implement technology solutions

Process Development Support (20%)
- Develop, establish and enforce quality assurance standards and measures for the desktop computing environment within the organization and ensure compliance with University computing standards to assure high data security.
- Propose and coordinate with CMRR IT staff to evaluate staff computing needs to develop a set of computer hardware & software solutions towards a standardization that economizes support efforts.
- Lead the development of standard operating procedures with documentation on computing support tasks.

Room and Event Audio Visual Support (10%)
- Support AV/Video Conference/Meeting (Zoom/Webex/Conference room equipment) including supporting CMRR and visiting staff in conference and seminar rooms
- Provide end-user support for lecture and event live stream and recording deliverables.

Additional Duties (10%)
- Participate in related University professional groups and/or Communities of Practice to ensure the needs and interests of the center are represented.
- Contribute to, understand, and carry out the IT@UMN vision and strategy.
- Special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
- BA/BS degree (preferably IT-related) or a combination of related education and work experience to equal at least four years.
- Solid understanding of software stack including OS (Windows, Mac) and networking.
- Experience providing technical support and troubleshooting IT systems
- Excellent written and oral communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability to administer Windows and Apple devices (and other operating systems, as needed).
- Experience with communication, presentation, and training on system processes, enhancements, and technology solutions.
- Experience supporting audiovisual technology and software applications.
- Experience supporting technology in a higher education environment.
