Position Description
The department of Community Planning and Economic Development currently has one (1) full-time Summer Internship opportunity, in the area of Zoning - Field Inspection.

Schedule: The hours are 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Pay: Anticipated hourly rate of $16.51, depending on qualifications. A resume and cover letter are required with your application.

Work Location: This position currently works on-site only.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
Assist Zoning Enforcement in a variety of field inspection duties such as:
Reviewing site for compliance with site plan approvals, including garages, new single family homes, and larger developments such as multifamily and nonresidential structures.
Additional project duties assigned if needed.
Data entry as required.


Required Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Current students, or recent graduates within a year of this announcement, with an educational focus in Building or Housing Inspections, Urban Studies, Business Administration, Public Administration, Housing Program, Urban Planning, Geography, Architecture or other related fields.

Minimum Experience: No experience required.

Licenses/Certifications: Valid driver's license.

Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience closely related to the duties of the position MAY be considered.

Background Check: The City has determined that a criminal background check and/or qualifications check may be necessary for certain positions with this job title. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Good oral and written communication skills.
Bilingual skills in Spanish, Somali, Amharic, Oromo, Hmong, Vietnamese and/or Lao highly desired.
Ability to relate and work effectively with people from diverse cultural, economic and ethnic backgrounds.
