Qualifications
Ability to learn to operate custodial equipment.
Must be able to work independently as well with others.
Basic ability and knowledge of cleaning and general (light) maintenance.
Capable of maintaining and accounting for inventory of tools, custodial equipment, all furniture, and supplies in building(s) assigned.
Ability to be flexible in work assignments (start time, split schedule, day of week, weekends).
Good written and oral communications skills.
Good organizational skills.
Able to work without supervision
Confidentiality regarding work area exposure to information, documents, etc.
Safety requirement: must attend instructional meetings on use of safety kit for cleanup and disposal procedures of harmful chemicals and hazardous waste spills. Annual training requirement per OSHA and institution safety requirements.

Job Description:
The Custodial Maintenance Department at the College of Saint Benedict invites applicants for the full-time, benefit eligible position of Custodian.

This position is responsible for maintaining a high level of cleanliness, disinfection, and light maintenance in academic, administrative, and residential areas as assigned.

Responsibilities
Custodial Maintenance

Plan, prepare for and complete all tasks as outlined on detailed task list for building(s) assigned according to specified procedures.
Keep all areas assigned hazard free utilizing proper precautions and signage while performing tasks.
Work on special projects such as set up/takedown tasks related to Facilities Maintenance Department for the campus at the direction of the Facilities Director or the Custodial Maintenance Team Leaders/Supervisors.
Clean and maintain all equipment to the level required by the maintenance schedule for each item of equipment. Store equipment in proper storage areas. Report on a work order any hazards or major repairs.
Report all maintenance requests on the online computer work order system. Report Emergency requests to security phone #5000 or via the most expedient communication available.
Secure and maintain the safe use of all chemicals used in the cleaning process to include labeling, maintenance of SDS binder in building, personal protective gear and training of staff and students in proper use and disposal.
Do monthly checks of all safety equipment under direction of Facilities Director. Must be aware of and follow all college safety procedures and policies.
Student Employee Supervisor
Be involved in the hiring/dismissal process.
Complete time schedule and task assignments.
Instruct students in performance of tasks assigned.
Oversee student performance and safety training.
Complete student performance appraisals.
General Responsibilities
Unlock doors according to schedule of areas assigned.
Report damages, hazards, and missing inventory to the proper authorities.
Direct concerns of students, faculty, and staff to immediate supervisor.
Keep building entries, steps, and fire escapes clean and hazard free.
Account for keys issued.
Remove snow according to snow removal plan.
Perform related duties as assigned.
