The University of Minnesota, School of Public Health (SPH), Division of Environmental Health Sciences (EnHS) is seeking to fill a100% Assistant/Associate/Full Professor (tenure/tenure track) position with a focus on health impacts at the interface. The changing climate is having considerable impact on the availability and quality of water used for agricultural production and human consumption. Water is a critical component of a healthy, safe, and sustainable food supply. Foodborne and waterborne diseases are already leading causes of death, disability, and diminished quality of life around the globe. Climate change may amplify transmission dynamics through diverse mechanisms. Moreover, the effects of climate change and access to food and water are not evenly distributed. Environmental justice and health equity will be increasingly important components to address at the food, water, and climate change interface. We seek talented public health scientists who will develop an innovative scholarly research program to address these growing challenges.
The successful candidate will contribute to the University of Minnesota Global Food Ventures (GFV) initiative. The GFV is committed to answering the global imperative of safe, nutritious and affordable food, through the application of innovative discovery, and next generation workforce development. This position will contribute to the GFV research program related to Food Safety Innovations and leverage existing and proposed GFV investments.
This position will enhance internationally-recognized programs in foodborne disease and emerging infections research, prevention, and policy development in the EnHS division and across the SPH. The EnHS division has programs with collaborations across the University and with state, federal and international public health agencies. Climate change compounds the changing demographics, methods of food production and consumption and globalization of food systems that create new and emerging food safety challenges. We are seeking to enhance our ability to address these emerging public health threats through innovative research, teaching, and public engagement. This position will directly leverage opportunities to develop collaborative research related to the missions of the College of Veterinary Medicine, College of Food, Agriculture and Natural Sciences, the MN Integrated Food Safety Centers of Excellence (COE), the Institute on the Environment, the Center for Animal Health and Food Safety (CAHFS), and the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy (CIDRAP).
