Description of Work Unit | Founded in 1870, Colorado State University is among the nation’s leading research universities and enrolls approximately 32,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. Located an hour north of the Denver metro area, Fort Collins is a vibrant community of approximately 157,000 residents that offers the convenience of a small town with all the amenities of a large city. Fort Collins is situated on the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains with views of 14,000 foot peaks, and offers access to numerous cultural, recreational, and outdoor opportunities. The Department of Environmental and Radiological Health Sciences is home to one of the largest environmental health programs in the nation, and the only one that incorporates radiological health into its core curriculum. Students and researchers in environmental health investigate how natural and built environments affect human and animal health and seek solutions to minimize negative health consequences of environmental and workplace exposures. Radiological health focuses on the biological effects of radiation, including laboratory studies of the damaging effects of radiation, and clinical uses of radiation in diagnostic imaging and cancer therapy. |
Position Summary | The Business Officer for the Department of Environmental and Radiological Health Sciences (ERHS) oversees and has both authority and responsibility for the department business operations, administration and overall management of departmental financial and human capital resources, while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and university statutes, regulations, policies and rules using prudent fiscal controls. This position reports to and advises the Department Head as a financial and operational expert assisting and guiding with identification and implementation of all critical missions and strategic initiatives. The ERHS Business Officer oversees, manages and supervises the administrative team responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of the academic, research and service missions of the department. The Business Officer ensures expectations and objectives are met on a daily basis. This position has full oversight and authority of departmental budgets and budget development. This includes coordination and financial administration of an annual appropriated budget of $4.8 M plus $8/9 M in research funding as well as self-funded operations of $300 K. This requires expertise in sponsored project funding, federal cost accounting standards, Uniform Guidance, federal and state rules and regulations regarding procurement processes and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. This position is a key advisor and knowledge expert in the department strategic planning and development efforts. This position mobilizes a diverse team to ensure that strategies identified are implemented effectively and with appropriate resource allocation. This position is regularly called on for expertise and knowledge by the College and other university professionals particularly in the areas of budget, finance, and personnel strategies. |
