Description
Help to make a difference in a role that is an integral part of our healthcare team. If you love providing excellent service to patients and families while at the same time facilitating important duties in support of providers, this position may be for you. In this role you'll ensure that both patients and providers get what they need to promote the best care experience possible. This position is 20 - 24 hours/week and days/times will vary.
This position's primary responsibility is to perform administrative and support duties in support of neurosurgery practice to ensure the continuity of patient care and Clinic services. Main job functions will coordinate the care of patients from check-in to check-out as outlined by provider instructions. Facilitates priority communications between patients and providers by processing messages that come in via phone, portal, web, chat and/or fax. Serves as liaison with hospitals/surgery centers for surgical patients and performs prior authorizations on their behalf. Greets patients warmly and scans outside records the patient may bring to the visit. Following the visit, performs the check-out process including making additional appointments (diagnostic testing and follow up appointments) and coordinating provider orders as appropriate. Sends summary of care to outside providers. Assists patients with insurance forms for medications. Monitors provider schedules to confirm all information is available for upcoming patient visits.
Position Requirements
Education and Experience:
High School graduate or GED equivalent. Medical Administrative degree helpful.
At least one year of previous medical office experience, preferably in an outpatient clinic setting. Surgery scheduling experience and experience with prior authorizations/insurance is highly desired.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to support multiple providers and priorities, meeting deadlines and troubleshooting/resolving issues as needed.
Patient centered; strong customer service orientation. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to be organized, work independently, exhibit mature judgment and make sound decisions.
Accurate and precise reading and writing skills. Strong command of the English language; good spelling/grammar.
Knowledge of medical terminology and ICD-10/CPT coding.
Ability to handle confidential information with the utmost judgment and discretion.
Proficiency with MS Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook. Proficiency with electronic health records, preferably Epic.
Strong Knowledge of Neurosurgery scheduling
Knowledge of Prior Auth's surgery scheduling
Patient centered; strong customer service orientation.
Ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlines and troubleshoot and resolve problems.
Ability to work independently, exhibit mature judgment and make sound decisions.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented.
Strong problem solving skills
Assist patients with surgery appointments and coordinate providers' orders.
Review diagnostic results and present abnormalities to physician.
Review incoming mail; prepare forms, orders, etc. for physician's review.
Assist in obtaining necessary prior authorizations for prescribed treatments.
Assist with prescription dissemination by reviewing requests and chart for required information and responding to pharmacy per physician.
Perform miscellaneous duties as requested by supervisor and physician .
Knowledge of EMR spelling/grammar.
