* Fluency in Spanish language

DUTIES:
Data collection and coordination (60%)
* Assist the Research Coordinator in recruiting patients, collecting participant survey data, and assisting with genetic counseling audio recordings via in-person interactions at various M Health Fairview clinical sites in the Twin Cities
* Be available to help explain the purpose of the study to potential research participants, answer questions as needed, and assist the participants as they complete surveys on electronic tablets and/or paper forms
* Send recruitment emails and messages to eligible participants at M Health Fairview as well as Genome Medical telehealth partner in a timely manner
*. Maintain strict confidentiality and appropriate handling of Protected Health Information and research data (i.e. surveys and audio recordings)

Data entry, analysis, and administration tasks (40%)
* De-identify and analyze data from research participants' surveys and audio recordings/transcripts within secure databases
* Reliable use of the Genetic Counseling Skills Checklist to code audio-recordings of genetic counseling sessions
* Perform clinical genetic counseling assistant tasks as time permits, such as assisting the genetic counselor with paperwork, test results, or other care coordination tasks
* Ensure strict confidentiality and follow study protocol for proper storage and disposal of research data and materials

SCHEDULING AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
We are looking for individuals who are available for at least one 8 hour shift each week during business hours (between 8am-5pm).

The work environment/location(s) for this role will involve:
* A designated touchdown work space in the UMN Genetic Counseling Program Office (for data entry and analysis tasks)
* Travel to the M Health Fairview clinical sites (to assist with participant recruitment/enrollment). The UGRA must be able to travel to the M Health Fairview clinics, which are primarily located on the West Bank campus of UMN. However, additional transportation to clinics located off-campus may be required.

THE PROJECT:
GC-PRO (Genetic Counseling Processes Result in Outcomes) is a large, multi-site research study examining the process of genetic counseling. The researchers are attempting to identify the aspects of genetic counseling sessions that contribute to positive outcomes and experiences for patients. The study involves collecting surveys from patients who will be meeting with a genetic counselor for cancer, heart disease, or prenatal/reproductive care, and audio recording their genetic counseling session. By studying genetic counseling processes in real clinic settings, our goal is to better understand efficient, quality genetic counseling care. GC-PRO is also working with community partners to incorporate input from understudied communities in order to ultimately improve genetic counseling services for diverse patient populations.


SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The undergraduate research assistant (UGRA) will assist in the collection of participant data at various M Health Fairview genetic counseling clinical sites. They will assist the Genetic Counseling Research Coordinator with the following tasks: identify possible research participants, approach patients and explain the purpose of the study, work with professional interpreters for Spanish-speaking patients, assist participants with completion of a Pre-Appointment survey, set up audio recording of the genetic counseling appointment, help participants complete a Post-Appointment survey after their visit, and assist with distribution of participant gift card incentives. Additional primary job duties include completion of required research/HIPAA trainings, de-identification and entry of data within secure databases, and training on and reliable use of the Genetic Counseling Skills Checklist to code research data. The UGRA may also assist with various clinical tasks (such as assistance with clinical paperwork or test results) at the discretion of participating genetic counselors, time permitting.
