As a Clinical Dietician, you will be teaching patients ways to manage their health issues. This role enables empowerment to manage and conduct patient care, seeing positive outcomes you helped create. Your primary duties include but are not limited to: 

• Developing and implementing individualized plans for nutrition intervention. 

• Participating in nutrition research studies and communicating findings through reports, abstracts, presentations, and publication. 

• Communicating with the medical team through interdisciplinary meetings, rounds, and medical conferences.  

The ideal caregiver is someone who:  

• Has great time management and communication skills. 
• Will follow through with patients and our offices and support services.  

• Has previous nutrition experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops and implements an individualized plan for nutrition intervention in accordance with the patient's medical program goals and objectives, nutrition prescription, and self-management training. May require development of a therapeutic plan for special patients.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness and measures progress towards outcomes of medical nutrition therapy interventions utilizing assessment and evaluation techniques that consider the varied needs of age-specific populations as well as cultural, religious, and ethical values.
  • Provides appropriate documentation that summarizes the nutrition care plan in the patient's medical record, including nutrition assessment, diagnosis, plan, implementation, and progress toward goals.
  • Communicates with the medical team through interdisciplinary meetings, rounds, and medical conferences, and in cooperation with the food service staff, assures conformance to diet prescriptions.
  • Assures that care delivered to each patient is in accordance with the state practice act and demonstrates accountability for the proper use of patients' protected health information.
  • Participates in nutrition research studies and communicates findings through reports, abstracts, presentations, and publication.
  • Provides nutrition counseling for individuals and groups, and evaluates achievement of learning objectives by the patient and/or family. Provides appropriate follow up in accordance with the patients treatment goals, referring patients for outpatient counseling when needed.
  • Serves as a resource to medical staff and allied health personnel on nutrition issues. Conducts inservices and educational presentations to hospital/department staff. Assists in the education of dietetic students and interns. Plans learning experiences.
  • Maintains accurate record keeping of daily clinical activities, including information for scheduling and billing.
  • Assists in developing and revising patient education materials, clinical forms, and protocols, as well as nutrition-related policies, procedures and goals.
  • Supports and promotes the organization's infection control, safety, risk management, and customer/guest relation programs.
  • Assists in achieving compliance with Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) standards, with other accrediting organizations, and with regulatory agency standards, including state and federal.
  • Participates in departmental and interdisciplinary meetings, task forces or projects, and participates in community projects and education as needed/assigned.
  • Follows hospital and department policies and procedures with special attention on attendance and punctuality, confidentiality, dress code and display of ID badge, and safety.
  • Completes mandatory education and training in order to maintain organization and department specific competencies and requirements. Maintains applicable certification/licensure.
  • Other duties as assigned

Education:

  • Bachelors degree in dietetics, foods and nutrition or related area, from an accredited college. Completion of a didactic program in dietetics and supervised practice program approved by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) of the American Dietetic Association.

Certifications:

  • Registered dietitian or eligible for registration by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the American Dietetic Association. Currently licensed in the State of Ohio. If working as a specialist or coordinator of health-related program specialty certification required (if exists) or must be eligible to take exam.

Complexity of Work:

  • Maintains competencies specific to patient population served.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and application of nutrition services and medical nutrition therapy. Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form to patients public medical staff and physicians. Ability to function independently on assigned patient care units. Ability to counsel and educate others. General knowledge of nutrient analysis word processing and spreadsheet software.
