NY1495596 Swim Instructor/Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Salary: $20.00 per hour Mohawk Valley Community College provides accessible, high-quality educational opportunities to meet the diverse needs of our students. The College is looking for exceptional colleagues to join the MVCC community. We are currently seeking a part-time Swim Instructor/Water Safety Instructor (WSI) in our Center for Corporate & Community Education. The Swim Instructor/Water Safety Instructor (WSI) will teach the Red Cross Swim program levels guiding individuals of diverse age groups in mastering essential swimming techniques. The Swim Instructor/Water Safety Instructor (WSI) conducts comprehensive assessments of each student's performance, offers constructive guidance, and maintains detailed records of attendance, progress, and incidents. This position will oversee the upkeep of swimming aids and equipment, ensuring their optimal functionality. We have shifts available for: Saturday mornings (9:30am - 1:30pm) and weekday evenings. Key responsibilities for this position include: Instructs students with diverse swimming abilities on swimming techniques, various strokes, and essential water safety protocols; Provides guidance and support to proficient swimmers to further enhance their swimming capabilities; Evaluates students' advancements regularly and adapting instructional strategies accordingly; Maintains a vigilant watch over students to forestall potential accidents and injuries; Enforces specific guidelines for every swimming session to guarantee a safe and productive learning environment; Designs comprehensive swimming lessons that cater to individual capabilities and gradual progress; Identifies and rectifies improper swimming techniques to ensure students' continuous improvement; Completes required paperwork in a timely manner. Maintains regular communication with parents/guardians of young students on child's progress and development in swimming skills; Upholds cleanliness and orderliness in the swimming pool and associated facilities, including equipment storage space; Other related duties as assigned. Qualifications: Required Qualifications: American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor or Basic Swim Instructor (BSI), CPR, and First Aid certifications Two (2) years swim instructor or lead instructor experience Sound knowledge of proper swimming techniques and water safety rules Strong swimming abilities Effective communication skills Flexible availability including evenings and weekends Preferred Qualifications: Current American Red Cross (ARC) or equivalent Lifeguard Certification Associate degree (or a minimum of 60 completed college credits) Special Instructions to Applicants: Official academic transcripts required upon hire.
