This opportunity entails assisting and supporting the coordination and implementation of public engagement and involvement programs for infrastructure project in our Wisconsin marketplace. Our team works closely with leading transportation agencies in the region to shape the cities we live and work in. We are looking for a motivated, creative communicator to help us bridge the gap between the projects our clients are most passionate about and the communities most impacted by them.

The ideal candidate should be organized and able to manage multiple tasks and projects within defined scopes, schedules, and budgets. The candidate should be collaborative and effectively work with project managers, client teams, graphic designers, and other staff involved in the delivery of outreach activities.

Our Milwaukee, WI office is seeking a Public Engagement and Communications Intern for Summer 2025.

Relocation and housing are NOT provided for this in-person internship opportunity.

What You’ll Do:

  • Performs a variety of tasks which may be specific to a particular functional area of activity such as preparing reports, tracking and evaluating results, coordinating program developments, answering the phone, receiving messages, transmitting information, making copies, editing documents, handling routine inquires and making appointments.

  • Participates in meetings and interfaces with various teams.

  • Assists management in analyzing various data.

  • Works on special projects and provides research as needed.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What You’ll Need:

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent plus enrolled in a related undergraduate or graduate program

What We Prefer:

  • Strong verbal, written and visual communication skills.

  • Ability to read, write and speak Spanish proficiently are a plus. Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.

  • Eager to learn about strategic communications and public engagement plans for transportation projects during the planning, design and construction phases.

  • Enthusiastic about assisting in organizing public meetings, stakeholder workshops and advisory committees, including building skills in engaging with the public, stakeholders and local officials.

  • Ability to create communication materials, such as presentations, newsletters, factsheets, brochures and information displays, with guidance from the team.

  • Comfortable learning to use online engagement tools, including surveys, websites and social media used for the timely dissemination of project information.

  • Capable of prioritizing tasks, managing multiple responsibilities and working collaboratively within a team environment.

  • Open to travel, primarily within Wisconsin, to gain hands-on experience in public engagement activities.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
