Job Summary
Reporting to the Electrical Foreman, the Lead Electrical Technician performs electrical work, including troubleshooting, installations, alterations, repairs, and general maintenance using applicable skills and knowledge. This position helps to maintain the university’s medium voltage, primary electrical distribution, secondary electrical distribution, DC, communications, and controls systems. Supports other trades within the department. Supervises contractor labor.
Required Qualifications
Must be licensed by DPOR as an electrician. Demonstrated experience with installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of residential, commercial, and industrial electrical and mechanical systems working independently of supervision. Professional working knowledge and demonstrated experience in the use of tools and equipment used pertaining to the electrical trade. Ability to respond to campus emergencies within 30 minutes. A valid driver’s license is required.
Additional Considerations
DPOR licensure in other mechanical fields. DPOR master’s license in electrical preferred. Experience with technology in the submission of requisitions and timecards. Certifications in NICET, OSHA (for example, trench safety, scaffolding, operating aerial lifts, asbestos, and HAZWOPER), and others related to trade. Commercial experience with fire alarm systems, elevators, emergency generators/ATS, sprinkler systems, 3-phase electrical equipment and gear, building automation systems, communications protocols, drives/soft starts, medium voltage, network/structured cabling, access control, intrusion alarm systems, and shunt trip systems. Experience reading and interpreting written instructions, blueprints, and schematic drawings.
