We are united in our mission of conquering cancer, HIV/AIDS and related diseases. We strive to create an inclusive, diverse, and equitable environment where we provide compassionate and comprehensive care to patients of all backgrounds, and design programs to promote public health particularly among high-risk and underserved populations. We conduct groundbreaking research that advances treatment, we educate tomorrow's physician/researchers, and we work with amazing partners, including other Harvard Medical School-affiliated hospitals.

Responsibilities

We intend to hire a senior research technician in the laboratory of Dr. Daphne Haas-Kogan to support pre-clinical research focused on identifying and validating targeted therapies for pediatric gliomas. The individual will help with projects that aim to characterize the anti-tumor activity of various clinical agents in vitro and in vivo models and the molecular mechanism of action and drug resistance.

The ideal candidate will have prior laboratory research experience involving in vivo mice experiments (at least a year), mammalian cell culture, basic molecular biology techniques (e.g PCR, cloning, RNA extraction, plasmid DNA isolation, Western blotting), and biological database mining.

The candidate is expected to be highly organized and should be able to perform experiments independently under minimal supervision. The applicant must demonstrate outstanding personal initiative and the ability to work effectively in a team. The individual will be an integral member of the research group and will provide intellectual input, participate in lab meetings, and work collaboratively with members of the lab.

The mission of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is to provide expert, compassionate care to children and adults with cancer while advancing the understanding, diagnosis, treatment, cure, and prevention of cancer and related diseases. As an affiliate of Harvard Medical School and a Comprehensive Cancer Center designated by the National Cancer Institute, the Institute also provides training for new generations of physicians and scientists, designs programs that promote public health particularly among high-risk and underserved populations, and disseminates innovative patient therapies and scientific discoveries to our target community across the United States and throughout the world.

  • When Chuck Stravin was diagnosed with renal cell carcinoma in 2015, one of his biggest fears was not living long enough to see his four young daughters get married. The disease later metastasized to his lungs as stage IV cancer, but thanks to groundbreaking clinical trials and a care team he considers family, Stravin is checking important items off his bucket list.

On Dec. 30, Stravin took a break from ongoing treatment to walk his daughter Kayla down the aisle at her wedding. Several members of his care team at Dana-Farber Brigham Cancer Center including oncologist Toni Choueiri, MD, attended the ceremony, and photos that Chuck tweeted of him and Kayla from that day — accompanied by words of thanks to Choueiri and Co. for making it happen — quickly went viral. http://ms.spr.ly/6184g146C
