Position Description
The School of Art and Design at Texas State University seeks to develop a pool of communication design educators with expertise in a broad range of communication design practices for full and part-time positions at the rank of Lecturer and Visiting Assistant Professor. Successful candidates will be able to teach courses in foundations, interaction design, typography and branding at a variety of levels in the program with a focus on conceptual thinking and technical proficiency. All positions are subject to availability of funds.

Lecturer positions are nontenure line, nine-month faculty positions, based upon student demand on a semester-by-semester basis. Eligibility for annual reappointment is contingent upon satisfactory annual performance evaluations during the term period.

Visiting Assistant Professor positions are nontenure line, nine-month faculty positions, subject to annual reappointment review, and renewable for one year upon expiration of the initial term.

Primary responsibilities include:
  1. Teach classes at the BFA and/or MFA level in flexible teaching modalities such as face-to-face, hybrid, and online, to accommodate many types of learners and depending on the needs of the program.
  2. Engage in service to the school, college, university, community, and profession (Visiting Assistant Professor only).
Required Qualifications
Required Qualifications for Lecturer
  • BFA in communication design, visual communication, graphic design or related discipline and a record of professional accomplishments within the area of communication design.
  • Strong design mechanics, typography, systems thinking, design research and conceptual skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in design utilizing current and emerging interactive technologies.
Additional requirements for Visiting Assistant Professor
  • PhD, MFA, MDes, or equivalent terminal degree in communication design, visual communications, graphic design, interaction design, or a related discipline completed by the date of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD, MFA, MDes, or equivalent terminal degree in communication design, visual communications, graphic design, interaction design, or a related discipline completed by the date of hire.
  • Previous teaching experience is preferred.
