Educational and Experience Requirement
Bachelor’s degree in related field. Master’s degree preferred. One year of experience in a related field. Additional education may be considered in lieu of experience.
Nature & Purpose of Position
Performs semi-complex administrative support and program coordination for the Smith-Hutson Scholars.
Primary Responsibilities
Oversees program coordination, student development, and administrative support duties for the Smith-Hutson Scholarship Program at Sam Houston State University (SHSU). Provides 360-degree support for up to 300 scholars. Plans, organizes, and coordinates the day-to-day strategic operations for the Smith-Hutson Scholarship Program. Plans and coordinates outreach programs to raise awareness of the program and organizes engaging programming and events for scholars and program alumni. Develops and implements techniques for evaluating student success programs. Oversees programs focusing on continuous process improvement. Prepares and reviews reports on the effectiveness of program activities, as well as maintains adequate records to monitor the academic progress of scholars. Assists with the preparation, and oversight of standard operating procedures, training and operational manuals, and other regulatory documents. Oversees schedules, priorities, and standards for achieving goals. Assists in preparation of operational policies, personnel processing, purchasing, and departmental budgets. Recommends program guidelines, procedures, and policies. Creates, revises, and distributes routine correspondence to internal and external departments for the SHSU campus. Provides limited assistance to students completing SHSU financial aid, registrar, admissions, or other department forms. Plans, schedules, and supervises the work of student employees. Oversees the Smith-Hutson Scholars website and social media accounts. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws. Ability to supervise business functions. Communicates with other university departments, personnel, and other agencies.

Up to 20% of this position, over the fiscal year during off-peak periods, may be performed remotely as determined by the supervisor.
