HIGHWAY MAINTENANCE WORKER
Department: DPW - Highway
Employment Status: UFCW Laborers Union, Non-Exempt; Full-Time (40 Hours)
Salary: Grade 5L, Step 05 - $18.31 + License
Schedule: Mon-Fri - 7:00AM - 3:30PM
Certifications/Licenses Required: MA Class B CDL License, MA Class A CDL License (must be obtained within one (1) year of hire)
SUMMARY
The City of Chicopee's Department of Public Works - Highway Division is hiring a Highway Maintenance Worker who is responsible for maintaining roadways, sidewalks, lawns, tree, drains, sewer lines and public infrastructures such as buildings.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES INCLUDE:
Perform construction maintenance work on streets, sidewalks, tree belts and other public property.
Perform excavation, bracing, sheet pilling and grading.
Fill potholes and cave-ins.
Maintains, cleans and construct sewers, catch basins, drains and manholes.
Clear overgrowth.
Actively participates in snow and ice removal operations.
Performs "Flag" duties at job sites on occasion.
Erects manholes and catch basins.
Lays sewer pipe and house waste connections.
May assist in Forestry operations as needed.
Operates air compressor and jackhammer.
Performs general labor duties as required.
Drives highway maintenance vehicles and completes daily vehicle maintenance logs.
Abide by City of Chicopee Health and Safety policies and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS
Massachusetts Class B CDL License - Required
Massachusetts Class A CDL License - Required (must be obtained within one (1) year of hire).
Willingness to perform heavy manual labor.
High School diploma or equivalent.
