Purpose of Job
The Patient Access Manager is responsible for providing oversight and leadership to the Ridgeview Hospital Patient Access team (inpatient registration, outpatient registration, emergency room registration at all Ridgeview hospital locations). Ensures adequate staffing and appropriately trained staff. Performs quality improvement activities related to registration and other Patient Access functions. Is responsible for being the subject matter expert and having extensive knowledge of policies and procedures to provide guidance and support to the Patient Access Representatives. Areas supported: Inpatient registration, outpatient registration, emergency room registration at all Ridgeview locations.
Job Functions
Provides day-to-day management of the Hospital Patient Access team. Supports the Patient Access Director through development of programs, goals, and objectives consistent with those of the organization's overall strategic plan and initiatives.
Manages staff resources by overseeing the recruiting, selecting, hiring, and orienting of qualified individuals. With assistance of Patient Access Supervisors, evaluates staff performance in an accurate, consistent, objective, and timely manner. Assists in the development of core position hiring strategies and ensures opportunities for professional development. Contributes to a cohesive Patient Access department committed to providing distributive, clinical and service quality to all customers.
Oversees the education of Patient Access staff, including department orientation, competency assessments, and ongoing education programs across all areas of responsibility.
Carries out functions with an awareness of operating expenses and key indicators within the budget for Patient Access. Supports the Patient Access Director in quality improvement efforts and service delivery that contributes to the overall success and financial viability of Patient Access. Routinely conducts quality reviews and provides feedback to staff.
Reviews and monitors applicable policies and procedures. As assigned, ensures compliance with local, state, and federal regulatory agency standards.
Maintains clinical competencies and/or knowledge in accord with scope and responsibility of the position.
Proactively identifies and acts upon improvement projects and opportunities through observation, data analysis, engagement with partners, review of external impact factors and best practice, as well as ongoing communication with leadership and staff.
Maintains and reports Patient Access metrics to assure workflows, productivity, and quality standards are adhered to.
With the assistance of Patient Access Supervisors, schedules personnel for shift coverage, vacations, sick leave, and other time off to assure all Patient Access areas are appropriately staffed.

Minimum Education/Work Experience
Bachelor's Degree in healthcare, business or related field or equivalent combination of education/experience
1-3 years of supervisory or leadership experience with progressive managing responsibilities
Preferred Qualifications
Previous healthcare related experience
Hospital Patient Access or Billing Office experience
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Demonstrated ability to lead and develop team
Excellent communication and influencing skills and ability to build strong working relationships at all levels
Assures excellent service with a high degree of urgency to internal and external customers
Systemic thinking when contemplating and implementing change
Proficiency in Microsoft Suite
Ability to communicate in the English language for effective written and verbal correspondence in order to complete job functions as mentioned above
