Summary of Job Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for didactic and clinical instruction within the School of Nursing and Health Professions. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to scholarship and service as well as excellence in teaching. This is a full-time appointment with primary responsibility for program operation, supervision, evaluation and revision.

  • Coordinate the program’s curriculum.
  • Conduct ASDH faculty meetings.
  • Provide an orientation and mentoring plan for each new undergraduate faculty member.
  • Assist SONHP Dean with completion of university, state regulatory and/or accrediting agency reports.
  • Assist SONHP Dean to inform state regulatory bodies and accrediting agencies of program changes as required.
  • Direct program efforts to maintain accreditation.
  • Assist SONHP Dean with development and implementation of program’s strategic plan with faculty input.
  • Maintain records of student’s academic credentials, licensure and other program required documentation.
  • With faculty input, recommend to the SONHP Dean faculty teaching assignments, academic advising responsibilities, classroom scheduling, and course schedules for the program.
  • Assist the SONHP Dean with annual faculty/staff evaluations.
  • Maintain program communication with the advisory committee.
  • Actively participate in recruitment activities.
  • Participate in recruitment and hiring of program faculty and staff.
  • Will teach courses within the ASDH program and have a load reduction in teaching assignment of 1/2 release time.
  • Coordination, evaluation and participation in determining admission criteria and procedures as well as advising students related to student promotion and retention criteria.
  • Serve as liaison and promote cooperative working relationship with other programs in the School of Nursing and Health Professions.
  • Active participation on committees within the SONHP.
  • Complete the Annual Program Report and submit to the Dean by the end of the fiscal year.
  • Initiation of program or department inservice and faculty development.
  • Assessing, planning and operating program facilities.
  • Provide input into budget preparation and fiscal administration.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education Requirements
  • Master’s degree from an accredited dental hygiene program or closely related field is required. Doctorate in a related field preferred.
  • Graduate of a dental hygiene program or dental program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) required.
Minimum Experience and Skill Requirements
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure as a Registered Dental Hygienist or Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry (DMD) is required.
  • Eligible for Kentucky licensure as an RDH or DMD.
Preferred Education and/or Experience Qualifications
  • Two years of experience in a dental hygiene practice.

Note: If the successful candidate is master’s prepared, the position will be filled as a non-tenure track, instructor. If the successful candidate holds a terminal degree appropriate for the position, the position will be filled as a tenure-track, assistant professor.
