Summary:
The person in this position will work with project teams involved in structural engineering and related technical assignments. Project assignments may include structural design and analysis, preparation of plans and specifications, report writing, cost estimating, and construction inspection/observation. The work will primarily be primarily hydropower facilities, wind turbine foundations, and industrial processing facilities including fuels facilities, power plants, mining facilities, and other heavy industrial facilities. The work may require short-term, out-of-town work assignments. All applicants should include transcripts with their application.
Minimum Qualifications:

3.2/4.0 grade-point average

At least two semesters of physics and three semesters of mathematics

Ongoing enrollment in an ABET-accredited civil or structural engineering degree program

Minimum of one full-time semester of undergraduate or graduate course work remaining after the internship

Familiarity with word processing and spreadsheet software

Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members, and clients

Strong technical and problem-solving skills

Attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness

A flexible working style as required to meet deadlines and/or client needs

Willingness to travel for fieldwork up to 30% and periodically adjust personal schedule to meet project needs

Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the future

Possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
Preferred Qualifications:

3.5/4.0 grade-point average

Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, MathCAD, Excel, and structural engineering analysis software such as RISA 3D or STAAD Pro

Completion of at least one semester of upper division (junior/senior level) engineering coursework (including structural analysis, steel design, and concrete design)
A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position is based out of our Hibbing, MN office.
NOTE: Some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and may also require entering and working in facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Safety training will be provided. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients.
