About the Job
Summary of Position
This position will support the startup phase of the Diezmann lab, which studies the biophysical and cell biological mechanisms underlying meiotic recombination. The researcher's contributions will include designing and microscopically characterizing novel strains of the model organism C. elegans and managing laboratory stocks and logistics.
Position Duties & Responsibilities
65% Research: Novel strain development and characterization Generate new strains of C. elegans by injection of CRISPR-Cas9 reagents and screening of progeny. Characterize strains using fluorescence microscopy. Design CRISPR guides and repair templates. Perform statistical analysis on data collected.
35% Lab management: Prepare media and other stocks, maintain and freeze C. elegans strains, maintain databases and protocols, track and receive orders. Other support as assigned.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
B.S./B.A. degree in biology, chemistry, or related fields; or a combination of related education and work experience to equal four (4) years. Expertise with wet lab techniques including sterile technique and preparing solutions/reagents.
Preferred Qualifications:
Coursework in genetics, experience with C. elegans, familiarity with CRISPR-Cas9 genome engineering techniques. Organizational skills related to task and inventory management.

The comprises faculty from both the Medical School and the College of Biological Sciences. Faculty members are engaged in research in three key disciplines of the department-genetics, cell biology and developmental biology.
