Position Summary

Designs, develops, implements, monitors, communicates, and analyzes Xcel Energy's health and welfare programs including but not limited to: group medical, dental, vision, life insurance, paid time off, disability plans, spending accounts and work-life programs. Ensures Xcel Energy's competitive position in the marketplace. Supports efforts for improving and/or securing new policies and programs in order to provide the most favorable coverage, cost terms and claim settlements for all types of health and welfare benefits. Ensures compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements, including reporting, analysis and administration of health and welfare programs. Provides consultative services to all business areas on any health and welfare benefit related area. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and execute department goals.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Health and welfare benefit programs: Designs, develops, implements, communicates and analyzes all health and welfare benefits programs for active employees and retirees. Researches industry and company data, analyzes results, and makes recommendations to management. Actively participates in benefit-related initiatives representing the interests of Xcel Energy.

  • Vendor selection and management: Negotiates with vendors, including benefits provided; costs; performance guarantees and expectations; identification of systems requirements; etc. Works with vendors to define working relationships, makes sure appropriate systems are established, guarantees Xcel Energy's objectives are met, and ensures that monitoring and reporting processes are in place.

  • Compliance: Ensures all health and welfare plans are in regulatory and legal compliance. Maintains and provides oversight of health and welfare benefit rules, regulations, policies, and conducts financial analysis and actuarial validation for government-required reporting to guarantee program compliance.

  • Consultative services: Provides in depth and complex problem resolution for employees, human resource staff, and managers by utilizing specific knowledge of health and welfare programs, products, benefit costs and technology. Makes training and benefit subject matter expertise available to human resource staff. Offers support in divestiture/acquisition processes.

  • Communication: Develops communication strategy to drive behavior change within Xcel Energy. Provides oversight of vendor communications. Communicates health and welfare benefit rules, regulations, policies, documents to ensure program compliance.

Minimum Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in a business-related field is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

  • Professional benefits certification from a recognized professional or educational organization is preferred.

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressively-responsible benefits or compliance reporting experience.

  • Preferred experience includes knowledge of benefit issues, trends and practices or ability to report health and welfare activities into regulatory compliance.

  • Competencies and skills which will be expected for this role include strong leadership, planning and organizational skills, ability to make good business judgments and provide guidance on priorities and technical implementation, as well as proven interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interface with individuals and groups at all levels of the organization.

Non-Bargaining

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $69,700.00 to $99,100.00 per year
