The Knox County Soil and Water Conservation District is seeking a qualified individual to fill their Current Agricultural Use Valuation Inspection Intern opportunity.  This is a PAID internship opportunity beginning May 2025 and ending in August 2025, with the potential to be extended through August. 

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Conduct driving/road surveys of properties enrolled in the Current Agricultural Use Valuation Program to confirm program eligibility.
• Perform basic GIS mapping and data entry activities.
• Provide occasional assistance to SWCD staff on conservation practice installation.

Qualifications:

• Valid Ohio Drivers’ License and clean driving record.
• Confident driver – occasional off-road driving to access isolated properties may be required.
• Ability to work independently after initial instruction has been given.
• Knowledge of agricultural crops grown and general agricultural practices utilized in Knox County & ability to recognize typical agricultural land uses.
• Familiarity with GIS mapping preferred.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Excel or other similar spreadsheet programs
• Must be able to traverse rough and uneven terrain.

Internship Details:

• Pay rate not to exceed $14/hour. Work experience, agricultural knowledge, and ability to work independently will be considered in final hourly pay rate
• Appointment period – 12 weeks/480 hours
• Preferred schedule - 8 hours daily, 8:00-4:30 M-F with ½ hour unpaid lunch. Alternative regular schedules may be arranged with consultation prior to employment. The appointment period may be extended beyond 12 weeks if the agreed to regularly scheduled workweek is less than 40 hours.
• This is a temporary appointment with a target hire date of May 10, 2025. The anticipated end date will be August 1st. There is the potential for the employment period to be extended through August.
• This position will receive pay for designated holidays and accumulate sick time at a rate of 2.3 hours/40 hours worked. The position does not earn vacation time, personal leave, or over-time.
