Position Overview
The
Peer Support Specialist (PSS), as part of the primary care treatment team, provides peer supportive services to develop meaningful and trusting relationship with patients with mental health and/or substance use disorders. This position reports to the Integrated Behavioral Health Manager.
THIS POSITION OFFERS A 40-HOUR WORKWEEK, NO WEEKENDS, FULL BENEFITS PACKAGE, 12 PAID HOLIDAYS, BI-WEEKLY PAY!
Essential Tasks- Provide individualized coaching and support to patients.
- Assist patients with increasing social support networks of relatives, friends and/or significant others.
- Establish therapeutic rapport by openness and trust.
- Interact effectively with individuals, families, and involved agencies to promote active recovery treatment and relapse prevention.
- Provide essential expertise and consultation to promote a culture in which each individual’s point of view and preferences are recognized, understood, respected and incorporated into the treatment process.
- Assist clinical staff in the development of patient focused plan of care.
Experience and Education
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- North Carolina Peer Support Specialist Certificate.
- One year of experience working with persons with mental health or substance use disorders, preferred.
- Relevant personal life experience, preferred.
- Basic computer skills.
- Microsoft Word.
- Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to demonstrate empathy.
- Effective communication skills.
- Analytical skills.
- Valid North Carolina Driver's license.
Schedule
Monday - Friday
8 am - 5 pm
8-hour shift
Day shift, some nights and weekends
Physical Requirements
- Potential sitting or standing for long periods of time, occasional bending, stooping, lifting including of patients, reaching forward and overhead. Proper lifting techniques required.
- May require walking primarily on a level surface for periods throughout the day.
- Frequent computer work required.
- Must be able to travel freely in the local area; between clinics, hospitals, health departments, etc.
